Orthotic Assessments & Prescriptions

Understanding Custom Orthotics

Chiropodists and podiatrists are the only regulated health professionals authorized to prescribe and provide orthotics. With 7-8 years of specialized education, they are experts in orthotic use and manufacturing. Consequently, many insurance companies require that orthotics be prescribed and dispensed by a Chiropodist or Podiatrist.

Orthotics are essential for addressing biomechanical and gait issues. They benefit a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions. Because each foot is unique, custom foot orthotics are considered medical equipment, unlike over-the-counter arch supports. Custom orthotics are designed to move with your foot, providing crucial corrections for an optimal gait pattern and protecting tender areas from daily wear and tear.

At Waterloo Foot & Orthotic Clinic, we use advanced three-dimensional casting methods to create orthotics tailored to your foot’s specific needs.
